Background of Rangiku’s Sword

Rangiku Matsumoto is a member of the Gotei 13, one of the armed forces of the Soul Society in the anime and manga series Bleach. Rangiku’s strength and leadership allowed her to advance within the ranks of the Shinigami, eventually earning the prominent rank of lieutenant in the 10th Division. As a lieutenant, Rangiku is able to communicate with her Zanpakuto sword to wield special abilities when fighting.

The Haineko (trans. "Ash Cat") is the powerful sword which Rangiku uses to fight with Shinigami strength for the fearsome military organization “the Gotei 13.” The true power of her sword activates when she says her command “Growl”. When released, the blade transforms into ash, with hidden tiny blades that Rangiku uses to surround and tear her enemies apart. The Haineko is a black katana with a curved guard in the shape of a cat’s head and a dark red handle, which Haineko keeps clipped onto her waist.
