Background of Kuchiki Byakuya's Senbonzakura from Bleach

Kuchiki Byakuya is a member of the Kuchiki Clan and is descended from one of the four most revered Noble Houses in the anime and manga series Bleach. As a member of nobility, Byakuya is considered one of the “True First” (Shoichi) of Soul Society, who are entrusted with the important task of protecting the history of the afterlife. Byakuya quickly advanced within the ranks of the Shinigami, earning the prominent position of captain of the 6th Division in the Soul Society’s army, the Gotei 13.

The Senbonzakura (trans. “Thousand Cherry Blossoms”) is Byakuya’s trademark Zanpakuto sword which he uses to fight for the widely feared army, “the Gotei 13.” His sword’s true power is activated when he says his signature command “Scatter”. The sword has the special ability to blast deadly blade fragments, which reflect light to resemble the appearance of a cherry blossom petal. Byakuya possesses the powerful ability to control these blade fragments, which can shred his opponents upon impact. The Senbonzakura has a cross-shaped guard, lavender wrapping on the handle and a white coloured sheath.
