Background of Toshiro Hitsugaya's Hyorinmaru from Bleach

Toshiro Hitsugaya is a member of the Gotei 13, one of the armed forces of the Soul Society in the anime and manga series Bleach. A gifted prodigy, Toshiro’s intellect and incredible battle instincts advanced him within the ranks of the Shinigami, earning the rank of captain in the 10th Division under Rangiku Matsumoto’s command.

The Hyorinmaru (trans. “Ice Ring”) is Toshiro’s trademark Zanpakuto sword which he uses to fight for the fearsome military organization “the Gotei 13.” The true power of his sword activates when he says his signature command “Sit Upon the Frozen Heavens”. When released, the sword has the special ability to control both water and ice. Toshiro can control these elements so that they will manifest into an ice-shaped Chinese dragon which can instantly freeze its opponents. The Hyorinmaru is regarded as one of the strongest ice-element swords in Soul Society and has a star-shaped bronze guard with light blue wrapping on the handle.
