Background of Capt. Nathan Algren's Mini Katana

US Army captain Nathan Algren is a decorated war hero from both, the Plains Indian Wars and American Civil War in the 2003 film The Last Samurai. Recruited to serve as an Imperial Japanese Army advisor, captain Algren is tasked to stop a samurai rebellion led by Saigo Takamori who is fighting against modernizing Japan's imperial government and the samurai order. While studying his new adversary, Algren learns the ways of the samurai from Takamori. With a change of heart, Algren embraces the Japanese culture and chooses to fight together with Takamori against the Imperial Army. For the final fight, Takamori gifts Algren a katana sheathed in a black scabbard, and a blade engraved with kanji meaning "belong to the warrior in whom the old ways have joined the new".

Mini Katana replica of Capt. Nathan Algren's Sword

Our carefully crafted mini katana is inspired by Capt. Nathan Algren's katana, including the engraved carbon steel blade (toshin) and it's iconic guard (tsuba) shape. This metal mini katana is 44 cm long and comes with a wooden sheath (saya). The mini katana is blunted and comes with a small mini stand, making it an ideal home decoration.

This is a mini katana, not a full length katana.
