Background of Sakata Gintoki's Bokuto from Gintama

Gintoki Sakata is a highly-skilled samurai and the protagonist of the anime and manga series Gintama. Having fought in the great Joui War, Gintoki earned the title "Shiroyasha" (trans. "White Demon"), due to his demon-like appearance, white clothing and dominating skill with the sword. His swordsmanship and abilities are so notorious that his name alone struck fear into the hearts of the Amanto (outer space aliens). Gintoki wields the "Bokuto" (also known as the Toyako Bokuto), which he uses with self-taught and unpredictable swordplay to face and defeat even the most powerful enemies. The Bokuto is a tsuba-less bokken training sword with the words "Lake Toya" inscribed on it. It is rumored Gintoki bought his Bokuto during a class trip in his youth.
